Boost Productivity with a Macro Keypad
Using a programmable macro keypad to handle keyboard shortcuts is the best productivity tip I’ve ever found.
Down the Keyboard shortcut Rabbit Hole
I started using keyboard shortcuts with simple macOS features like @@ for my email address, and similar shortcuts for my name, address, phone number, and zip code.
Then, I wanted to do more, so I started using Keyboard maestro to create shortcuts for opening folders and programs I used frequently enough.
I used Fn+F1 through Fn+F6 to quickly open folders like Desktop and Downloads, and work-related folders. It became automatic. The other function keys opened frequently used programs and websites, and also gave me access to Keyboard Maestro‘s Clipboard History switcher.
I began automating parts of my work, like starting a new audio recording in QuickTime, and opening Shure PlusMOTIV when I plugged in a specific USB-C microphone.
I also created custom shortcuts for tools, settings, and panels in Adobe audition. I quickly moved some of these to my Logitech MX Master for even faster editing.
