Indian Air Force Claims World Record with S-400 ‘Sudarshan’ Intercept

The Indian Air Force (IAF) released footage on Friday showcasing the operational capabilities of the S-400 ‘Sudarshan’ long-range air defence missile system, asserting it achieved the longest-range intercept ever recorded in military history. The demonstration, shared ahead of the Vayu Shakti-2026 exercise, highlights India’s advanced aerial defence network.

S-400 ‘Sudarshan’ in Action

The released video depicts radar systems acquiring a distant airborne target, followed by the launch and successful interception of a missile well beyond visual range. An on-screen message proclaims, “Longest ever kill recorded in military history. Enemy may be out of sight but never out of reach,” underscoring the system’s extended engagement capability NDTV.

Operation Sindoor and Pakistan-Based Threats

The IAF referenced Operation Sindoor, conducted in May 2025 against Pakistan-based terror groups, during which the S-400 system reportedly played a critical role. Officials stated the system was used to strike a target approximately 300 km inside Pakistani territory Times Now.

Vayu Shakti-2026 Exercise

The footage was released in anticipation of Vayu Shakti-2026, a major air power demonstration scheduled for February 27, 2026, at Pokhran in Rajasthan. The exercise will showcase the IAF’s operational readiness and diverse aircraft capabilities Times Now.
