Fatal Humvee Rollover in Southern Lebanon
Capt. Eliav Haim Tzapalamus, 21, died Thursday when his Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Humvee overturned during operational activity in the Litani area of southern Lebanon. The combat officer, a member of the 603rd Battalion of the 7th Brigade, was confirmed dead by the military following the accident.
Three other soldiers were wounded in the rollover. They were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, and the military confirmed that their families have been notified. An internal investigation into the circumstances of the incident is currently underway. The wounded soldiers suffered light injuries during the Thursday incident.
Ongoing Operations of the 7th Brigade
The 7th Brigade remains engaged in active operations across the border. While initial reports from The Jerusalem Post and The Times of Israel categorized the event as a vehicle-related operational accident, the IDF confirmed the specific identity of the officer and his unit.
Tributes Amidst National Commemoration
The death occurred on a day of national mourning, coinciding with the state ceremony at Mount Herzl marking the anniversary of the October 7 massacre. The fallen officer was a resident of Haifa and the son of Benny and Heli, an employee of the Haifa Municipality. Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav honored the fallen officer, describing Capt. Tzapalamus as part of a “generation of heroes” who carried significant responsibility for the security of the country. He added, “A generation that reminds us all what duty, dedication, and love of the land mean.” The Mayor also extended condolences to the bereaved mother, stating, “Dear Heli, all of us – your friends and colleagues at the Haifa Municipality – are devastated and heartbroken.”
Political Friction at Mount Herzl
As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to “complete the mission” against those responsible for the October 7 attacks, he was interrupted by Yaakov Godo, the father of Tom, who was killed in Kibbutz Kissufim. “You did not protect my son,” Godo told the Prime Minister. President Isaac Herzog also addressed the assembly, acknowledging the heavy toll of soldiers lost since the conflict began. During the ceremony, Herzog stated that the nation bows its head “in memory of those who were murdered and those who fell in battle.”

Clarifying Operational Details
The three surviving soldiers remain under medical care with light injuries. During the same event, Netanyahu declared there is “no forgiveness for the slaughterers, the murderers, the looters and the kidnappers,” further asserting that the state is “hunting down the human animals that attacked us with shocking cruelty.”
