Idiots Trailer Released: Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. Star in Macon Blair’s Rehab Transport Comedy
A red band trailer has been released for Idiots, the upcoming comedy film written, produced and directed by Macon Blair. The trailer showcases Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. As two unqualified individuals hired to transport a wealthy teenager to rehab, a premise that quickly spirals into chaos.
The film, which premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, stars Franco as Mark, an unbothered scumbag, and Jackson Jr. As Davis, a God-loving striver. Mason Thames plays Sheridan Kimberley, the rich teen at the center of the story. Additional cast members include Kiernan Shipka as Irina, a stripper; Nicholas Braun as Pricka Bush Da Werewoof, a lycan-obsessed SoundCloud rapper; and Peter Dinklage as Koko.
Originally titled The Shitheads, the film was renamed Idiots ahead of its theatrical release. Independent Film Company announced the change, confirming the movie will debut in theaters on August 28, 2026, following its Sundance premiere on January 23, 2026. The film has a runtime of 98 minutes and is distributed by Independent Film Company.
Blair developed the project over several years, with early announcements dating back to 2017. Casting evolved through 2018 and 2025, with Franco, Jackson Jr., and Dinklage joining in February 2025, followed by Thames in July 2025. Principal photography took place in Paulding County, Georgia, during the fall of 2025.
The trailer highlights the film’s comedic tone, blending road trip antics with character-driven humor as Franco and Jackson Jr.’s characters navigate their misguided mission. Blair, who also serves as a producer alongside Franco, Alex Orr, Brandon James, and others, described the original title as one he “got attached to” during early development, though the team ultimately opted for Idiots for the public release.
Idiots is set to open as the opening night presentation for the 50th Atlanta Film Festival on April 23, 2026, before its wide summer release.
