Dr. Manajyoti Yadav Named Governor of Illinois Southern Chapter of the American College of Physicians

Manajyoti Yadav, MD, FACP, has been appointed Governor of the Illinois Southern Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP). Dr. Yadav’s tenure began with a commitment to fostering a strong and innovative community for internal medicine physicians, residents, and students in the region.

A Journey Rooted in Education and Patient Care

Dr. Yadav’s medical journey began with medical school at Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College in India. She then completed her residency at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in New Jersey and a Chief Residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP). She currently serves as an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Co-Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship and Sub-Internship at UICOMP. Her career has been guided by a passion for patient care, education, and contributing to the medical community.

ACP Leadership and Recognition

Dr. Yadav has been actively involved with the ACP for several years. She is a member of the IM Item Writing Taskforce for the American Board of Internal Medicine and a member of the Council on Education and Health Workforce for the Illinois State Medical Society. She also serves as an Associate Editor for AQUIFER.

Her dedication to the field has been recognized with several awards, including the Golden Apple Award and Outstanding Teaching Award from UICOMP in 2023, and the Laureate Award from the American College of Physicians in 2022. She was also named a 40 Leaders Under Forty honoree in the Greater Peoria region in 2021.

Chapter News and Events

The Illinois Southern Chapter of the ACP recently held a successful Students’ and Residents’ Day in Springfield, IL, on October 23, 2025, featuring poster competitions, oral vignette presentations, and a Doctor’s Dilemma competition. Winners included Aaron Shulkin, Grace Brolly, and Joy Ku for medical student posters; Ayesha Ali, Scott Van Gemert, and Seemab Imtiaz Gill for resident clinical vignette posters; and Rishi Bothara, Jerry Sweis, and Safi Ur Rehman Daim for resident research/quality improvement posters. Varshini Thiruvadi, Nancy Mayer, and Roshani Bista were recognized in the oral clinical vignette competition, and Priya Antil, Mohamad Bahrou, and Asmitha Reddy were champions in the Doctor’s Dilemma competition.

The chapter also announced its 2026 Residents & Students of the Year: Mounica Vorla (Carle), Diego Ruiz-Avila (UICOMP), Alex Tran (UICOMP Med/Peds), Eugene Annor (UICOMP), and Obada Daaboul (SIU). Vidya Sundareshan, MD, MACP, was named a new Master of the ACP, and Peter Phan, MD, FACP, received the Illinois Southern Laureate Award for 2025.

Advocacy and Well-being Initiatives

The ACP is actively engaged in advocacy efforts, including a recent court ruling supporting evidence-based immunization practices. The Illinois Southern Chapter sent a team – Elio Jabra, Lauren Sargeant, and Kavitha Jacob – to the ACP Leadership Day in Washington, D.C., on May 12-13, 2026, to advocate for key policy issues.

The ACP has also launched a Well-being Champion curriculum to promote physician well-being, offering CME and MOC credit.

Upcoming Events

Key upcoming events include the ACP National Internal Medicine Meeting in San Francisco, CA, from April 16-18, 2026, with an Illinois Chapter reception scheduled for April 16th. The chapter’s annual Scientific Meeting and Students’ and Residents’ Day will be held in Peoria on October 2, 2026.

As Dr. Yadav stated, “Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.”
