India’s Cricket Team Receives Record $14.24 Million Bonus After T20 World Cup Win
Ahmedabad, India – March 10, 2026 – The Indian men’s cricket team is celebrating a historic victory and a record-breaking bonus after winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a staggering ₹131 crore (approximately $14.24 million) reward for Suryakumar Yadav and his team following their triumph over New Zealand in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8, 2026.
Record-Breaking Prize Money
This marks the largest cash prize ever awarded in Indian cricket, surpassing the ₹125 crore ($13.64 million) given to Rohit Sharma’s team after their T20 World Cup win in Barbados two years prior. The BCCI’s generous reward is also significantly higher than the $11.25 million total prize pot for the entire tournament, exceeding it by roughly $3 million. The prize money will be distributed among the players, support staff, and selectors.
Dominant Performance in the Final
India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final, securing their third ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title. This victory makes India the first team in tournament history to both retain the title and win the competition three times, solidifying their position as a dominant force in the sport.
BCCI Celebrates Historic Achievement
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of INR 131 crore for Team India following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026,” the BCCI stated in a press release. “India lifted the prestigious trophy… successfully defending the title and becoming the first team in the history of the tournament to retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”
Looking Ahead to the Olympics
Captain Suryakumar Yadav has set his sights on a new goal for the team: securing a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The team’s recent success has cemented India’s place among the most successful teams in T20 cricket history, according to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
Past Rewards from the BCCI
This latest reward demonstrates the BCCI’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding its players. In the past, the board awarded ₹58 crore to the Champions Trophy-winning team and ₹51 crore to the Women’s World Cup-winning team last year. Last year, the Champions Trophy-winning Indian team received a $6.72 million cash bonus, triple the $2.24 million they received for winning the title.
