Indiana’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles offices rank highest in a nationwide analysis of public vehicle registration and driver’s license offices, despite having no locations in the top 10, the Indiana Capital Chronicle reported. The evaluation, conducted by SEO Backlinks, examined more than 1.2 million Google reviews across approximately 2,500 state, county, and official contract offices in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
Indiana offices lead national average ratings
The nationwide analysis evaluated Google Maps listings that accumulated at least 100 reviews as of Monday, filtering out private tag agencies, AAA branches, road test sites, and closed locations. Across the country, motor vehicle offices averaged 3.8 stars. Indiana offices outperformed every other state with an average score of 4.16 stars.
State averages contrasted sharply with the highest-rated individual locations. The top 10 individual branches clustered in Florida, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Missouri, Colorado, and Texas. The single highest-rated location achieved a score of 4.96 across 296 reviews.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Louisiana dominated the list of worst-performing branches. The state claimed five spots among the 10 lowest-rated offices nationwide, anchored by a low score of 1.95 across 521 reviews. Poorly reviewed locations also appeared in Missouri, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
“Nobody expects to enjoy a trip to the DMV, but I didn’t expect the gap between the best and worst offices to be this big,” SEO Backlinks founder Oliver Weston said in a news release. “The top offices in Florida and Oklahoma score close to five stars, and people there talk about being in and out in 10 or 20 minutes. At the bottom, people describe losing most of a day.”
Branch Preparation And Visitor Resources
Weston advised checking online branch reviews prior to visiting any location. He also recommended booking appointments ahead of time when available, noting that scheduling efficiency appeared frequently in positive customer feedback.
Indiana residents can schedule appointments online for standard transactions as well as driving skills exams. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles provides an online branch tracker that displays real-time wait times, lists the timestamp of the last update, and identifies the next closest office locations for drivers seeking faster service.
