Jakarta, Indonesia – An acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), has prompted a swift response from the Indonesian National Army (TNI), which is now investigating allegations of involvement by four of its soldiers. The attack occurred on Thursday, March 12, 2026, in Central Jakarta, leaving Yunus with severe burns covering 24 percent of his body.

Details of the Attack

According to reports, Yunus was ambushed by two individuals on a motorcycle while traveling in the Senen area. KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the assailants doused Yunus’s upper body with acid, causing him to collapse. He is currently receiving intensive medical care at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta. The corrosive liquid caused significant damage, impacting his eyes, face, chest and hands, and even melting portions of his clothing.

TNI Investigation

The TNI has confirmed the arrest and detention of four soldiers at Pomdam Jaya in connection with the attack. Major General Yusri Nuryanto, Danpuspom TNI, announced the arrests on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, but has not yet disclosed the soldiers’ roles or motives.
