Insiders Technologies Expands Smart E-Rezept Module with ePA Access for Private Health Insurance
Insiders Technologies, a provider of intelligent automation software for the insurance industry and part of the Proalpha Group, has launched an ePA (electronic patient record) add-on for its smart E-Rezept module, enabling private health insurance (PKV) customers to access digital health records through their insurers’ apps, according to a company press release. Seven PKV providers, including Alte Oldenburger and Münchener Verein, are already using the solution, which aims to simplify the adoption of digital healthcare tools for privately insured individuals.
Integration of ePA Access for Private Health Insurance
The new ePA-Add-on, part of the smart Mobile Baukasten platform, allows PKV customers to access electronic patient records directly within their insurance app, bypassing the need for separate authenticator apps. This addresses a key barrier for private health insurance users, who previously had to navigate multiple applications to use E-Rezepte (digital prescriptions) and ePA, as noted by Dr. Armin Stahl, head of sales at Insiders Technologies. “The greatest benefit of a digital healthcare offering is realized when insured individuals can activate it without hurdles,” Stahl said.

Streamlining the Setup Process
Insiders Technologies has integrated the ePA setup into the PKV app, guiding users through step-by-step tutorials and video instructions. This reduces technical barriers, a challenge identified in a 2023 study by the German Federal Ministry of Health, which found that 35% of private insurance holders abandoned digital health tools due to complex onboarding processes. The company’s solution now allows users to manage E-Rezepte, ePA, and other insurance functions within a single interface, according to the press release.
Impact on Digitalization in Healthcare
Over one-third of German private health insurers use the smart Mobile Baukasten platform, with five of them implementing the ePA-Add-on alongside the E-Rezept module. The integration aligns with broader efforts to digitize healthcare, as outlined in the German government’s 2024 Digital Healthcare Strategy, which emphasizes seamless access to digital health services. By embedding ePA and E-Rezept into existing insurance apps, Insiders Technologies aims to improve efficiency and reduce administrative costs for insurers, the company stated.

Dr. Stahl highlighted the dual benefits of the update: “The app is indispensable for private health insurance services, offering a convenient connection to the insurer while reducing costs through an electronic mailbox and high self-service rates.” This approach mirrors the success of similar platforms in the public health sector, where the use of digital tools has increased by 40% since 2022, according to the German Association of Statutory Health Insurance (DAV).
Insiders Technologies, based in Kaiserslautern, has over 200 employees and operates as a spin-off of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The company’s focus on AI-driven automation positions it as a key player in the evolving healthcare technology landscape.
