Insta360 has launched the X6, its new flagship 8K 360-degree action camera, featuring larger dual Sony 1/1.1-inch sensors, an upgraded 4nm AI chip, and 10-bit color support, according to Mashable. Retailing for $699.99 for the standard version, the device arrives to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary with improvements to low-light performance, frame rates, and physical durability.
Sensor and Processing Upgrades
The X6 succeeds last year’s X5 model by integrating dual Sony 1/1.1-inch sensors, replacing the smaller 1/1.28-inch sensors found on its predecessor, as reported by Mashable. This hardware change allows the camera to capture more light, improving video quality in dim environments and high-contrast scenes. While retaining the dual imaging chip architecture of the X5, the X6 upgrades its AI chip from a 5nm to a 4nm node. According to Insta360 statements cited by Mashable, this new processor delivers five times more computing power than the previous model while drawing less power.
Resolution and Frame Rate Specifications
Shooting capabilities on the X6 reach 8K resolution at 50 frames per second for 360-degree video, an increase from the X5 maximum of 8K at 30fps. For traditional flat filming, the camera reaches 5K at 60fps compared to the X5 cap of 4K at the same frame rate. Photo capture modes also expand, offering 120-megapixel 360-degree images or 42-megapixel flat photos, surpassing the X5 specifications of 72 megapixels and 18 megapixels respectively. For the first time in this product line, the X6 includes 10-bit color, Dolby Vision, and Insta360’s proprietary I-Log profile, providing a wider dynamic range for color grading in post-production.
Form Factor and Hardware Redesigns
The physical body of the X6 measures 50mm wide—slightly wider than the 46mm X5—but reduces the overall height by roughly 25 millimeters to approximately 100 millimeters. This compact chassis houses a 2.32-inch OLED touchscreen capable of reaching 1,200 nits of peak brightness for outdoor visibility. The display doubles as a large physical record button to accommodate users wearing thick gloves. Battery performance sees an extension, with Insta360 stating that the X6 can record 8K 30fps 360-degree footage for up to 140 minutes on a single charge, representing a 40-minute improvement over the X5 runtime.
Durability updates include a waterproof rating of up to 20 meters, marking a five-meter increase over the previous generation. The camera also introduces replaceable lenses that the manufacturer claims are five times more scratch-resistant and more affordable to swap.
Pricing and Bundles
The Insta360 X6 is available in Midnight Black and Arctic White colorways through two purchasing options. The Standard Version costs $699.99 and includes the camera, a USB-C cable, a protective pouch, and a lens cloth. An Essentials Bundle priced at $799.99 adds an extra battery, an invisible selfie stick, a lens cap, a fast-charge case, and an extended warranty.
