After the controversy in the last few hours following Carlo Conti’s announcement that the comedian and actor Andrea Pucci would have participated in the next Sanremo Festival 2026 as co-host, a sensational about-face has arrived: Andrea Pucci gives up on Sanremo. “The insults, threats, epithets and so on received by me and my family in recent days are incomprehensible and unacceptable!”, communicated the actor with a note issued byAnsaspeaking of a “negative media wave” that alters “the fundamental pact” with the public. Hence the choice to “step back”, thanking Carlo Conti and Rai. “In 2026 the term fascist should no longer exist – he stated -. Homophobia and racism are terms that highlight hatred of the human race and I have never hated anyone“.
“My job – underlined Pucci – has been to make people laugh, for 35 years, but I could say forever!!! And I have always brought the habits and customs of my country onto the stage, mocking the character aspects of men and women. Through my work I have achieved objectives and goals with the intention of giving smiles and bringing lightness to those who have always come to see my shows. The insults, threats, epithets and so on received from me and by my family these days are incomprehensible and unacceptable!”.
And again: “This negative media wave that involved me on the occasion of the announced participation in SanRemo, such an important event that belongs to the heart of the countryalters the fundamental pact that exists between me and the public, which is why I decided to take a step back as the prerequisites for practicing my profession have disappeared”.
“At 61 – continued Pucci – after what happened to me physicallyI don’t feel like I have to engage in an intellectually unequal struggle that doesn’t belong to me. I must and want to thank Carlo Conti, Rai, and all those who believed, thought about and proposed this occasion which would have meant a wonderful celebration for me. In 2026 the term fascist should no longer exist, there are the man of the right and the man of the left who think differently but who confront each other in a democratic system that fortunately governs our beloved country! Homophobia and racism are terms that highlight hatred of the human race and I have never hated anyone. I therefore wish everyone good luck to Carlo Conti, wishing him a successful edition and I’ll wait for you at the theatre“.
Pucci also removed the post from Instagram in which he thanked Conti for the invitation. In the photo that accompanied the message, the comedian appeared completely naked from behind: “Sanremo, I’m coming,” he wrote. And Carlo Conti, responding to the post, replied ironically: “But on the Ariston stage, wear at least a little costume”
The announcement of the comedian’s presence on the Ariston stage sparked quite a bit of controversy among those who accuse him of being fascist, homophobic, sexist. In particular, some lines from Pucci’s theater shows have come under fire, such as: “We spent the whole last year getting swabs, you entered these facilities where they stuck the swab in one nostril, if they were assholes in the other too, if they were even more assholes in the mouth, if instead your name was Zorzi, in the ass”.
It was 2022 and Zorzi had replied: “The thing that drives me crazy is that what do you know about where I get it. How can you claim the right to go on stage and say that I get it…, it’s something that drives me crazy.”. Now why does ‘gay=we all get it…’ make you laugh, three days before the Milan Pride? I don’t know Pucci, I think you owe me an apology.”
Precisely referring to this episode, the PD parliamentarians of the RAI supervisory commission had issued a note: “Has Sanremo, like all of Rai, also become TeleMeloni? The Rai leaders must explain the choice of comedian Pucci, clearly right-wing, fascist and homophobic, already in the news for having made fun of a boy from the show for being homosexual. A riot of vulgarity mixed with racism. Rai and the government must immediately explain what is happening”.
Then the about-face. Carlo Conti will now have to run for cover to replace him as well as having to close the list of guests and other co-hosts of the event.
