Intel Stock Dips Below $95 Offering Price After $23 Billion Share Sale

Intel stock traded below $93 per share after the company raised $23 billion in an equity offering priced at $95 a share, according to reporting by The Motley Fool. The transaction, which initially sought $15 billion on August 10 before institutional demand expanded the deal, left participating investors underwater within days as shares closed at $92.13.

Institutional Demand Drives Upsized Offering

Intel originally set out to raise $15 billion in new capital on August 10. According to The Motley Fool, demand from institutional buyers was strong enough that the offering immediately priced 210.5 million new shares at $95 each, raising the target to $20 billion on the same day. Underwriters subsequently exercised a 30-day option to purchase an additional 31.6 million shares in full on August 11, pushing the total capital raised to approximately $23 billion across roughly 242 million shares.

The $95 offer price represented a discount of roughly 3% compared to Intel’s market price of $97.52 on the day the deal was announced. Intel capitalized on market appetite to fund general corporate purposes, which may include capital expenditures and working capital, without taking on additional debt.

AI Compute Demand Fuels Capital Requirements

Intel pointed directly to its customers as the driver behind the raise. According to corporate announcements cited by The Motley Fool, clients continued to signal a strong and sustainable demand environment fueled by unprecedented investment in artificial intelligence compute. Management stated that the funding allows the company to pursue growth opportunities while maintaining a strong balance sheet and its commitment to an investment-grade rating.

Intel reported 25% year-over-year revenue growth to $16.1 billion last quarter, up from $12.9 billion a year earlier, with third-quarter forecasts maintaining guidance between $15.8 billion and $16.8 billion.

Rapid Market Slide Leaves Buyers Underwater

Market conditions shifted quickly following the closure of the share offering. Shares had traded above $103 as recently as Monday, but experienced three straight down sessions, dropping to $96.69 on Tuesday, $92.80 on Wednesday, and $92.13 on Thursday, according to market data reported by The Motley Fool. With the stock lingering below $93, institutional investors who purchased shares in the $23 billion offering found themselves holding positions below their purchase price within eleven days of the transaction.
