Engineering Three Distinct Compartments for Mass Casualties

According to BioTimes, the newly installed system manufactured by Interocean is an Asia-first “6ATA triple-room (3-compartment)” hyperbaric oxygen therapy unit. The equipment utilizes specialized pressure control technology to regulate internal pressure up to six atmospheres (6ATA), allowing medical teams to treat severe decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning, and toxic gas inhalation.

The structure divides the chamber into three distinct compartments, enabling concurrent management of patients with varying treatment requirements. The facility accommodates up to 16 patients simultaneously, providing continuous, uninterrupted treatment during mass casualty events such as major fires or industrial gas leaks.

Direct Critical Care and Stretcher Docking Capabilities

According to the hospital’s operational framework, the facility also incorporates a 3ATA two-person hyperbaric chamber built by Interocean. This secondary unit allows medical personnel to enter the chamber directly alongside patients for continuous, close-range critical care.

To protect immobile or stretcher-bound patients from secondary injuries during transfers, the system features a side bayonet door design. This engineering configuration allows a stretcher cart to dock directly into the chamber without requiring a transfer platform, streamlining the treatment process for acute trauma and severe burn cases.

Combating Occupational Risks and Supporting Firefighter Recovery

According to BioTimes, the installation addresses specific occupational health risks faced by firefighters, who experience regular exposure to toxic combustion byproducts, carbon monoxide, psychological trauma, thermal burns, and musculoskeletal disorders during emergency response operations.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy facilitates accelerated wound healing, cellular regeneration, and fatigue reduction, supporting faster clinical recovery and return-to-duty timelines for frontline personnel. Interocean has supplied certified multi-place hyperbaric systems to university-affiliated and regional tertiary medical centers across South Korea since receiving domestic certification for its multi-place units in 2013.
