Ion Țiriac to Build 4-Star Hotel in Otopeni for Sports Complex

Billionaire Ion Țiriac is developing a 150 million of euros sports and entertainment complex in Otopeni that features a four-star hotel with 136 accommodation units, as profit.ro reported. The sprawling Țiriac Sport Center takes shape around the existing Allianz-Țiriac Arena ice rink, adding hospitality infrastructure designed to serve visiting athletes, delegations, and event spectators.

Hotel Blueprint and Amenities in Otopeni

The four-story hotel spans a 17,047-square-meter land plot, boasting a total surface area of 3,427 square meters and a built-out area of 8,288 square meters, according to profit.ro. The accommodation zone encompasses 136 units divided among double rooms, twin rooms, two accessible rooms for guests with disabilities, studios, and apartments equipped with kitchenettes. Public and service areas include a reception, lobby, lounge, bar, restaurant, breakfast buffet area, conference rooms, administrative offices, staff quarters, technical rooms, and outdoor terraces. Stiripesurse.ro noted that the property also features a dedicated spa center housing a swimming pool, saunas, a fitness room, and massage parlors. Motorists and tour groups are served by 61 parking spaces for cars and a single dedicated space for a coach.

THG Hotel Management Targets 2029 Hotel Completion

Investment for the hospitality component is handled through a newly established group entity named THG Hotel Management. Representatives for the Țiriac group stated to profit.ro that construction work on the hotel is projected to start by mid-2026, targeting a completion date by 2029. Management emphasized that this implementation schedule remains provisional, tied directly to securing necessary urban planning permits, authorizations, and synchronizing with the broader multi-phase construction of the entire sports and cultural complex.

Broader Sports Complex Integration

The hotel anchors the hospitality wing of the wider Țiriac Sport Center development. Earlier phases of the massive Otopeni initiative included the summer inauguration of the Nadia Comăneci gymnastics hall, while an Olympic swimming pool named after Camelia Potec is currently under construction. Future expansion phases outlined by the developer comprise a 30-court tennis academy, a multi-purpose indoor arena, a residential zone, and a cultural venue.

Real Estate Portfolio Expansion Across Romania

Beyond the Otopeni hub, the Țiriac group maintains an active pipeline of real estate developments in Bucharest and regional cities. In Bucharest, business filings indicate the group initiated steps to demolish buildings currently housing Țiriac Auto dealerships in the Expoziției district to clear ground for a future major real estate project. Commercial assets such as the Țiriac Tower office building near Piața Victoriei continue to generate substantial annual rental revenues, while provincial plans target multi-million euro commercial and mixed-use investments in Timișoara and Brașov.
