Iran Claims Missile Attack on USS Abraham Lincoln Amidst Rising West Asia Tensions

TEHRAN – Iran’s military claims to have launched a missile attack targeting the U.S. Aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. The reported attack, utilizing shore-based cruise missiles, comes as tensions escalate across the West Asia region.

Iranian state media reported on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, that the country’s armed forces fired missiles at the USS Abraham Lincoln. The IRNA news agency quoted naval officials stating the operation was part of ongoing surveillance of U.S. Fleet movements.

According to Iranian Navy Commander Shahram Irani, the aircraft carrier is under continuous monitoring and will be targeted again should it enter the range of Iranian missile systems. He stated the carrier group’s movements are “continuously monitored, and as soon as this enemy fleet comes within range of our missile systems, it will be subjected to a strong attack by the Iranian Navy.”

A statement broadcast on state television asserted that Iran’s Qader cruise missile “targeted the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier of the United States and forced it to change its position.” The Fars news agency, affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, echoed this claim, stating the attack “forced the American navy to change position.”

U.S. Response and Previous Claims

As of this report, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has not issued an immediate response to Iran’s claims. The United States has previously denied similar assertions of attacks on its military assets by Iran.

In a past incident, former U.S. President Donald Trump alleged that Iran fired approximately 100 missiles at a U.S. Aircraft carrier, all of which were reportedly intercepted. “Out of 101 missiles, every single one was shot down,” Trump stated.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is currently operating in the Arabian Sea as part of ongoing military operations.

Recent reports indicate that Iran likewise claimed a second cruise missile attack against the USS Abraham Lincoln.

The veracity of Iran’s claims remains unconfirmed, with U.S. Central Command maintaining that the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group remains fully operational and continues to conduct missions in the region.

Amidst rising tensions, questions remain regarding whether Iranian Navy cruise missiles actually hit the USS Abraham Lincoln. Video footage has surfaced, but its authenticity has not been verified.

Iran’s Navy Commander Shahram Irani warned that the warship is under constant surveillance and will face further “crushing” attacks if it re-enters the range of Iranian missile systems.
