Joanne McNally makes US television debut on The Tonight Show

Irish comedian Joanne McNally made her US television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, delivering a seven-minute stand-up set that covered turning 40, breakups, and the challenges of keeping secrets. Appearing alongside actor Chris Pratt and television host Andy Cohen, McNally filled the late-night stage.

Comedian Joanne McNally performs on Monday, October 19, 2026. Another user noted that “it was a huge stage to fill, and you did it”.

Late-night preparation challenges and a missed flight to New York

The path to the New York studio involved strict script requirements and a travel mix-up that frustrated production staff. McNally told her co-host Vogue Williams on their podcast, My Therapist Ghosted Me, that adapting her usual live show into a rigid late-night format proved difficult, according to Evoke. She admitted that she was attempting to alter material up to seven minutes before going on stage. Compounding the pressure, McNally miscalculated her arrival time while flying in from Vancouver for two rehearsal sets. Evoke reported that the show’s booker was left waiting while the comedian was still airborne, prompting the staff member to lose his temper before production resumed.

McNally confessed So it was, honest to God, one of the, one of the hardest things I’ve done in my whole career. It came together in the end, thank God, but it was one of the most stressful things that I’ve had to do so far, so I’m so glad that it went well.

Online criticism and McNally response to the Fallon booking

The booking drew criticism from some social media users who pointed to Jimmy Fallon’s interview with former UFC fighter Conor McGregor, which faced backlash following McGregor’s liability verdict in a civil trial involving Nikita Hand, according to The Journal and Extra.ie. McNally defended her choice directly on social media. She wrote, Imagine every single woman was expected to deplatform/silence/shrink herself from all and any public platform or professional opportunity cos it had previously had a bad man on it … he’s ruined enough women’s lives … I’ll be taking the opportunity.

McNally expands international profile through TV and touring

The television appearance coincides with a broad expansion of McNally’s international profile across television and streaming platforms. Alongside her podcast success with Vogue Williams, McNally stars in the BBC golf series A Course Called Ireland alongside Bill Murray and appears on the reality competition series The Celebrity Traitors. Extra.ie noted that she is also taking her stand-up show Pinotphile on tour in the US and Canada. Following the run of her previous show, The Prosecco Express, which sold more than 260,000 tickets worldwide, McNally signed a deal with Netflix for an hour-long stand-up special of Pinotphile scheduled for a worldwide release in 2027, as reported by The Journal.
