Isabel Lohau Receives Wildcard for 2026 European Badminton Championships in Huelva

The entry list for the 2026 European Badminton Championships, set to take place from April 7th to 12th in Huelva, Spain, has been released. A significant highlight for Germany is the awarding of a wildcard to Isabel Lohau, allowing her to compete on the international stage following her successful national comeback.

Lohau to Partner with Debora Jille in Women’s Doubles

Isabel Lohau will team up with Dutch player Debora Jille in the women’s doubles competition, having received a wildcard alongside the Dutch duo Debora Jille. This pairing comes after Lohau’s gold medal win at the German Championships in Cloppenburg with Yvonne Li. Originally, Lohau had planned to compete with Stine Küspert at the German Championships, but a last-minute injury to Küspert led to the successful partnership with Li.

A Return to Familiar Territory

Lohau expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity, stating that she has had the European Championships in mind since resuming training in July. She emphasized the motivation that competing at a high level provides as a mother. Huelva holds special significance for Lohau, as it was the site of her first European Championship medal in 2018. Interestingly, she and Jille were opponents at that time and will now compete as a team.

Preparation for Huelva

To prepare for the championships, Lohau and Jille plan to participate in the Swiss Open and the Orléans Masters. Their preparation will consist of these tournaments and additional training sessions.
