ISSI Delegation Visits NRTC to Explore Indigenous Telecom Capabilities
Islamabad – A delegation from teh Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) conducted a study visit to the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) on Wednesday, seeking to understand Pakistan’s domestic capabilities in radio and telecommunications and their importance to national security.
Led by Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, chairman of the ISSI Board of Governors, the visit centered on achieving self-reliance in dialog technologies through innovation and its strategic implications for the nation’s security. Ambassador Mahmood praised NRTC’s ongoing work to develop indigenous technological expertise, recognizing its crucial contribution to strengthening Pakistan’s defense and security infrastructure through technological advancement. He emphasized that secure, resilient, and domestically-produced communication systems are fundamental to national security, facilitating effective command, control, and strategic decision-making.
Brigadier Azmat Shabbir, Managing Director of NRTC, provided the delegation with a comprehensive overview of the institution’s objectives, primary functions, and current projects. He detailed NRTC’s notable contributions to both defense and civilian communication infrastructure, while also addressing emerging technological trends, challenges within the telecommunications sector, and future avenues for innovation and growth.
The visit concluded with an exchange of mementos, symbolizing the mutual respect and a shared dedication to fostering continued collaboration in support of Pakistan’s strategic and technological progress.
