‘They Follow’ Sequel to ‘It Follows’ Finally Begins Filming This Summer

After over a decade since the release of the critically acclaimed horror film It Follows (2014), a sequel, titled They Follow, is officially moving forward with filming scheduled to begin this summer. The project reunites director David Robert Mitchell and star Maika Monroe and is being distributed by NEON.

Development and Delays

The sequel was initially announced in 2023 Deadline, but faced scheduling conflicts that pushed back principal photography from its original 2024 start date. These delays continued into last year, creating uncertainty around the project’s future.

Monroe Confirms Filming at SXSW

Speaking at South by Southwest (SXSW) this weekend, Maika Monroe confirmed that filming will now commence this summer Dread Central. “I did this tiny little movie called It Follows at the very beginning of my career,” Monroe told the audience. “We’re filming the sequel this summer.”

What to Expect in ‘They Follow’

Monroe expressed excitement about revisiting her character, Jay Height, ten years after the original film. “It’s been very cool to see… this character that’s so important to me… see where she is ten years later,” she said. ArtThreat reports that the threat from the supernatural force in the sequel has expanded, now being “EVERYWHERE.”

Monroe as well teased that the storyline will be unexpected. “It’s not at all what I expected, where you would find Jay, which I thought was really captivating,” she shared earlier this year. “I was like, ‘Whoa! Cool,’ which I think the audience will probably have a similar reaction.” CBR

About ‘It Follows’
