Tributes Paid to Clare GAA Coach Jack Boddy Following Tragic Death
The Clare GAA community is mourning the loss of Jack Boddy, a 20-year-old coach who died over St. Patrick’s weekend. Boddy, originally from Limerick, had been missing since the early hours of Sunday, March 15th, 2026, after last being seen in Lahinch.
Search and Recovery
Gardaí launched a missing person appeal shortly after Boddy’s disappearance, describing him as 5′ 10″ tall, with brown hair and blue/green eyes. He was last seen wearing a navy polo t-shirt and grey combat-style pants. A large-scale search operation involving Irish Coast Guard, Clare Civil Defence, and numerous volunteers was undertaken in the Lahinch area. The search was stood down on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026, following the discovery of a body.
GAA Involvement and Tributes
Boddy was a highly regarded figure within Clare GAA, serving as the Strength and Conditioning coach for the Clare U-20 footballers. He helped guide the team to a win against Tipperary on Saturday, March 14th, 2026. He had previously worked with the Clare senior footballers in 2025 as an assistant to Shane O’Rourke.
Kieran Keating, Chairman of Clare GAA, expressed deep sorrow and announced the postponement of the upcoming U-20 football match against Waterford as a mark of respect. He stated, “The thoughts of all in Clare GAA are with the parents, siblings and extended family & friends of our late colleague, Jack Boddy, this dark St Patrick’s evening.”
St. Senan’s Kilkee GAA, Jack’s former underage club, likewise paid tribute, remembering him as a “popular and exceptionally talented member” who showed “great passion and enthusiasm for the game.”
Funeral Arrangements and Donations
Jack Boddy’s funeral will be held at Kilkee Church at 11:00 AM on Sunday, March 22nd, 2026, followed by a Cremation Service at Shannon Crematorium at 4:00 PM. The family has requested that, if desired, donations be made to Kilkee Sub Aqua Club Search and Rescue, acknowledging their efforts in the search for Jack.
Bruff, Jack’s hometown in Limerick, cancelled its St. Patrick’s Day parade in his memory, and a prayer service was held in Lahinch Church on St. Patrick’s evening.
