Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday will miss Opening Day due to a fractured hamate bone in his right hand, president of baseball operations Mike Elias announced Wednesday at the club’s spring camp.

Holliday will undergo a procedure to repair the fracture on Thursday, and his return schedule after the preseason will likely be measured in weeks, according to Elias.

Holliday, 22, baseball’s No. 1 prospect entering the 2024 season, according to MLB Pipeline, has hit .229 with a .300 on-base percentage (OBP) and 22 home runs in his first 209 career games since debuting in April 2024.

Elias also announced that Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg is dealing with a right oblique injury, and although it has improved, Westburg’s participation in Grapefruit League games will be delayed. Westburg is not expected to miss any of the regular season, Elias said.
