An animal rescue organization in Thailand recently intervened to save an injured dog named Kanom Thai after the animal suffered a sudden and severe hemorrhage from its nose, limo.media reported, while also discussing the salaries of veterinarians and animal nursing staff.
Emergency Intervention at a Thai Resort
The ordeal began when Kanom Thai wandered into a resort located in Thailand’s Nakhon Nayok province. The property’s owner initially took the dog in and began searching for a permanent home.
During this care period, Kanom Thai experienced sudden, heavy bleeding from the nose. The resort owner immediately contacted the animal rescue group Jai Dog Rescue, which arranged for emergency transport to a veterinary hospital.
Kanom Thai Recovers as Search for Adopter Continues
Following rapid medical treatment, Kanom Thai made a significant recovery. The dog returned to the care of the resort owner, where efforts to find an adopter continue.
Jai Dog Rescue documented the recovery process on its Instagram account, @jaidogrescue, drawing public attention to the case and highlighting the fragile realities of stray animal care in resort regions.
The Veterinary Industry Wage Gap
According to employment statistics released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the average annual salary for a veterinarian nationwide sits at 6,805,000 yen with an average age of 38.7. In contrast, animal nursing staff earn an average annual salary of 3,519,000 yen at an average age of 38.
This creates an earnings gap of approximately 1.9 times between the two professions despite similar age demographics.
Majority of Animal Nurses Express Dissatisfaction with Compensation
A survey conducted by the Japan Veterinary Nursing Association indicates that over half of animal nurses—specifically 54.5 percent—express dissatisfaction or extreme dissatisfaction with their current compensation.
The legislative establishment of the certified animal nurse credential in 2022 represents a formal recognition of specialized skills that may influence future wage trends in the sector.
