Jakarta Bans New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Jakarta – The New Year’s celebration in Jakarta this year will be different. Fireworks are prohibited from being set off on New Year’s Eve.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) will issue a circular (SE) regarding the prohibition on lighting fireworks on New Year’s Eve 2026. This policy applies to all activities that require permits, both those held by the government and private parties.

“Earlier in the meeting I decided that for the entire Jakarta area, both those held by the government and the private sector, we asked that there be no fireworks. We will issue a circular for this,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during a press conference at Jakarta City Hall.

Pramono said the prohibition covers activities in hotels, shopping centers and other crowded locations. The SE will be issued by the DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary (Sekda) in the near future.

“later there will be a Regional Secretary’s SE. Of course, once the Regional Secretary’s SE is out, peopel will obey it. All activities that require permits, whether in hotels, malls or other events, we ask not to hold fireworks,” he said.
