Muslim Legal Advocacy Group Files Blasphemy Complaint in Jakarta
A Muslim legal advocacy group filed a police report in Jakarta on August 11, 2026, targeting five parties over alleged religious blasphemy during The Sounds Project music festival in Ancol, North Jakarta. According to lawyer Moch. Rizki Abdullah, the complaint follows a viral video allegedly showing a woman reciting verses from the Quran to receive a bottle of alcohol on stage.
Jakarta Metropolitan Police Register Official Complaint
The legal complaint was registered at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters under number STTLP/B/5914/VIII/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA, as reported by Tempo.
Moch. Rizki Abdullah, representing the Muslim Legal Team, stated that the filing names the event organizer, an alcoholic beverage producer, two masters of ceremonies, and the female participant involved in the on-stage incident. Investigators received video footage stored on a flash drive and printed screenshots as evidence from the legal team.
Authorities Verify Timeline of On-Stage Incident
Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson Budi Hermanto stated that authorities are actively investigating the viral footage.
According to Budi, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the festival grounds. The Pademangan Police coordinated directly with the event organizer and venue booth operators to support the ongoing legal proceedings, while investigators scheduled clarification meetings with representatives of the event organizer and the masters of ceremonies.
Advocacy Team Cites Revised Criminal Code
The complainant group cited Article 300 of Indonesia’s revised Criminal Code (KUHP) in their report, with additional provisions subject to inclusion following further consultation with police investigators.
Moch. Rizki Abdullah noted that the advocacy group bypassed pre-filing mediation with the reported parties, categorizing the incident as a matter of significant public interest rather than a private dispute.
Calls Mount for Permit Revocation Amid Ongoing Probe
Alongside criminal reporting under the revised Criminal Code, the legal team urged government and law enforcement authorities to revoke the operating permits of both the event organizer and the alcohol producer allegedly tied to the festival booth.
Police continue to review the submitted digital evidence and interview scheduled witnesses to determine the full sequence of events at the North Jakarta venue.
