Details of the Crime

The robbery and murder of Ermanto Usman and the assault on his wife occurred on Monday, March 2, 2026. Ermanto was found dead, covered in blood, while his wife suffered serious injuries and remains in critical condition in the hospital. The perpetrator was apprehended by Jatanras Polda Metro Jaya at 18:54 on Monday, March 9, 2026, in Cilincing, North Jakarta. Kompas provides background on the victim.

Motivation for Targeting Ermanto Usman

Police revealed that the robber, identified as S (28), targeted Ermanto Usman’s home because it was the largest house in the area. “The perpetrator did not have a specific target. At that time the perpetrator saw that the house was the biggest house, so the perpetrator thought that there he could get quite a lot of objects or goods that the perpetrator was looking for,” Iman stated.

The perpetrator acted alone in the early hours of Monday, March 2, 2026, using scissors and a crowbar to pry open a window and enter Ermanto Usman’s house.

The Attack

According to police, the perpetrator killed Ermanto after being discovered during the theft. The perpetrator struck Ermanto and his wife with the crowbar. “When the female victim turned on the electricity and at that time she met the suspect and the suspect spontaneously hit the crowbar that had previously been used to pry open the window. This was spontaneously used to hit the female victim,” Iman explained.

“When he hit the female victim, because the bedroom door was open, the suspect saw the male victim sitting down,” he added. The perpetrator then panicked and attacked Ermanto, who had just woken up.

CNN Indonesia reported that Ermanto Usman died as a result of being struck with the crowbar.
