James Van Der Beek Death: Dawson’s Bay Star Dies at 48

James Van Der beek, known for his role as Dawson Leery in the hit television series Dawson’s Creek, has died at the age of 57, his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, announced on Instagram Tuesday morning.

“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning,” Kimberly wrote. “He spent his last days with courage, faith and grace.There is much to be said for his desire, love for humanity and the sanctity of time.Those days will come. For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we mourn our loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.”

Van Der Beek publicly revealed his diagnosis of stage 3 colorectal cancer in August 2024. He and Kimberly Van Der Beek shared six children: daughters Olivia, Annabelle, Emily, and Gwendolyn, and sons Joshua and Jeremy.

Born James Kimball Van Der Beek on March 10, 1967, in Chester, Connecticut, Van Der Beek rose to prominence with Dawson’s Creek, which aired from 1998 to 2003. The series launched his career and cemented his status as a teen idol.

Beyond Dawson’s Creek, Van Der Beek continued to work steadily in television and film, appearing in projects such as Varsity Blues (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), and Criminal Minds. He also showcased his comedic talents on shows like don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 and friends with Benefits.
