Jared Leto’s Attempt to Rewrite Jack Whitehall’s Brit Awards Script
Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto once attempted to alter the script for comedian Jack Whitehall’s introduction during the Brit Awards, requesting to be introduced as “the biggest rock star on the planet.” The incident, revealed by Whitehall, highlights a desire for control over his public image.
The Script Alteration Attempt
While hosting the Brit Awards, Jack Whitehall discovered that Jared Leto, along with his publicist, was attempting to modify the autocue script. Leto reportedly wanted Whitehall to introduce him with a grandiose title, specifically as “the biggest rock star on the planet.” Whitehall preferred a more humorous introduction, referring to Leto as “The Hipster Jesus,” but this was ultimately deleted from the script during Leto’s intervention. Louder Sound and Rolling Stone both reported on the incident.
Whitehall’s Response and Security Measures
Whitehall recounted the event on BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills’ Big Guest Friday, joking that he would have simply read the altered script, but a producer intervened. As a result of this experience, Whitehall has since implemented increased security measures for the autocue during his hosting duties. He humorously stated that his mother would be guarding the script, dressed as Chappell Roan. Rolling Stone
