Indonesia Maps 14 Earthquake Megathrust Zones

Jakarta,CNBC Indonesia – Experts have identified 14 megathrust zones in Indonesia. This details is in the 2024 Indonesian Earthquake Hazard and Source map report.This is an increase from the 13 megathrusts identified in the 2017 map.

Some of the megathrust zones on the 2024 map include West Java, wich could experience an earthquake up to magnitude 8.9. The Aceh-Andaman zone could produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 9.2.

here are the 14 megathrust zones identified in the 2024 Indonesian Earthquake Hazard and Source map:

1. The Aceh-Andaman Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 9.2.
2. The Nias-Simelue Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.7.
3. The Batu Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.6.
4. The Mentawai Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.8.
5. The Enggano-Sunda Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.4.
6. The Java Megathrust zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.8.
7. The Flores Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.4.
8. The Sumba Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.3.
9. The sawu-Roti Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.2.
10. The Timor Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.8.
11. The Banda Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.5.
12. The Seram Megathrust Zone can produce an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of 8.3.
