Jay Idzes Embraces Novel Era with John Herdman Ahead of FIFA Series 2026

Jakarta – Indonesian national team captain Jay Idzes has expressed his enthusiasm as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA Series in Jakarta. The Sassuolo defender is particularly excited about the new era under the guidance of head coach John Herdman.

Debut for New Coaching Staff

The Garuda squad is scheduled to face Saint Kitts and Nevis on March 27, 2026, at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK). This tournament will mark the debut for Herdman and his new coaching staff.

Positive Impressions of John Herdman

Idzes revealed that communication with the new coaching team has been very frequent and productive. Herdman took the initiative to meet with Idzes in Italy to discuss his vision and plans for the Indonesian national team.

“Preparations for the FIFA Series in March are important. We have new staff, a new coach, and we are really looking forward to working together. I have spoken with the coach several times,” Idzes stated in an interview shared on Sassuolo’s social media account.

The 25-year-old player likewise praised the coach’s personal approach. “He has been in Europe, he has been to Italy to meet me here. I am very happy with his approach to the national team and I think he has a lot of great things to say, a lot of good ideas,” he added.

Garuda Squad’s Enthusiasm

Idzes emphasized that the entire team is eager to reunite and represent Indonesia in the 2026 FIFA Series. He highlighted the value of facing opponents from different confederations – Bulgaria (UEFA), Solomon Islands (OFC), and Saint Kitts and Nevis (CONCACAF) – as a valuable experience.

“I experience like everyone on the team, the players, are very enthusiastic to return to the national team after the last time we were together. And yes, we will just rebuild and focus on the FIFA Series,” said Jay Idzes.
