Vance Calls for Local Cooperation with Federal Immigration Enforcement
Minneapolis, MN – Vice President JD Vance recently concluded a press conference in Minneapolis, urging state and local officials to actively collaborate with federal immigration enforcement agencies. Vance stated that increased cooperation is crucial to both upholding the law and mitigating unrest surrounding enforcement activities.
Following meetings with business leaders, ICE officials, and local law enforcement, vance emphasized that the most effective approach to managing the situation in Minneapolis woudl be through collaborative efforts. He specifically called for local police departments to assist ICE agents when they encounter obstruction from protesters, citing instances where local law enforcement have been directed to “stand down” when agents request assistance via 911.
Vance contrasted the situation in Minneapolis with that of other Democratic-led cities, such as Austin, Texas, and Memphis, Tennessee, where he reported that immigration enforcement has proceeded more smoothly. He attributed the difference to a lack of support from local authorities in Minneapolis, alleging that they have been instructed not to aid ICE and, instead,to allow agitation and potential violence to escalate.
Expressing optimism for future collaboration, vance relayed a conversation with President Trump, who advised him to seek common ground with local officials to ensure prosperous immigration enforcement operations without jeopardizing the safety of ICE officers. He believes a more cooperative approach is essential to resolving the current challenges and fostering a more orderly process.
