Angharad James Extends Reign FC Stay Through 2027

Seattle Reign FC has secured the services of Welsh captain Angharad James through the 2027 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season, the club announced. The two-year contract extension ensures the midfielder will continue to anchor the Reign’s midfield for the foreseeable future.

A Key Midfielder for Reign FC

James, 31, joined Seattle Reign FC in January 2024 from Tottenham Hotspur. In her debut season with the club, she appeared in 15 matches, making 12 starts and scoring one goal against Orlando Pride on May 19, 2024. She is currently second on the team in successful tackles with 22, boasting an impressive 81% tackle success rate, leading the league in that category.

International Leadership

James is a prominent figure in Welsh football, having earned 135 caps for the national team as of November 8, 2025, scoring six goals. She captained Wales at the UEFA European Championship, where she started all three games alongside Reign FC teammate Jess Fishlock. She became the youngest Welsh player, male or female, to reach 100 caps for her country.

Before joining Reign FC, James played for several clubs in England, including Arsenal, Bristol Academy, Notts County, Yeovil Town, Everton, Reading, and Tottenham Hotspur. She also had previous stints in the NWSL with North Carolina Courage and Orlando Pride.
