Shoppers looking to mend household goods and reduce single-use plastic can visit the Sussex Green Hub at the United Reformed Church on Springfield Road on the last Saturday of the month. Operating from 10am to 2.30pm at 45 Springfield Road, Horsham RH12 1PT, the initiative brings eco-minded groups together under one roof following the charity’s simple three Rs of refill, repair, and recycle.
Run by the award-winning charity Sussex Green Living, the Hub has been bringing people together since it launched during Great Big Green Week in 2021. Joanne Knowles, Chair of Horsham District Council, highlighted the community project in her regular column, sharing personal experiences of having clothes and a much-loved teddy bear repaired, filling up on shampoo and shower gel, and switching electricity suppliers.
Inside the Repair Café and Refill Shop
The Repair Café serves as the star attraction, where visitors can bring small appliances, clothing, or household items they would normally give up on, and friendly volunteers help give items a second life. Attendees can book their repair slots online. Meanwhile, the Refill Shop allows visitors to top up on cleaning staples for themselves and their homes without single-use packaging.
Community Fridges and Additional Stations
The site also hosts the Horsham Community Fridge operating from 10am to 11am to share surplus food so good groceries end up on tables instead of bins. Additional features include a Recycling Education Station to show what really goes where, a carbon clinic offering practical advice on cutting footprints and energy bills, a new Growing Hub for budding gardeners, and free monthly arty activities for children.
