Irish comedian Joanne McNally made her US television debut on Monday, October 19, receiving a standing ovation from the studio audience after performing a ten-minute stand-up routine on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, rte.ie reported. The 43-year-old Dublin-born performer wore a sparkling black Adidas jersey as she delivered jokes about dating, turning 40 as a single woman, and her inability to keep a secret, according to goss.ie.

Host Jimmy Fallon embraced McNally at the conclusion of her set, exclaiming, “Come on! What are you talking about? That’s awesome! That’s how you do it!” As the audience rose to applaud, Fallon added, “Look at that – standing O!” classichits.ie reported. During her routine, McNally joked that her favorite hobby was lying in bed covered in chip dust and watching Korean apartment-cleaning videos on TikTok.

McNally Films Netflix Special for New York Comedy Festival

McNally’s late-night appearance served as a promotional platform ahead of filming her upcoming Netflix comedy special, titled Pinotphile, at New York’s Town Hall on November 7 as part of the New York Comedy Festival, rte.ie reported. Following her New York performances, she is scheduled to bring the show to Dublin’s 3Arena for four nights in December, having already become the first Irish comedian to sell out three dates at the venue, with tickets remaining available for the December 11 show, according to rte.ie.

The television appearance also follows renewed international attention from McNally’s participation in the BBC reality series Celebrity Traitors, where her contestants’ guesses have provided amusement for viewers, rte.ie noted. Alongside her solo stand-up work, McNally co-hosts the award-winning podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me alongside Vogue Williams, playing to sold-out live audiences globally.

Social Media Support and Prior Backlash Over Show Lineup

Following her broadcast, McNally received public praise from peers, including Vogue Williams, who branded her a “superstar,” and presenter Laura Whitmore, who wrote on social media, “There she is! Proud 💚,” goss.ie reported. Viewers on social media similarly lauded her performance, with one fan calling it a “tight set, accomplished delivery, great craic altogether,” according to goss.ie.

The television debut followed earlier criticism directed at McNally over her decision to appear on the NBC programme. According to classichits.ie, critics had questioned the booking because Fallon previously interviewed Conor McGregor. McGregor was interviewed on the program following a November 2024 civil jury verdict in Dublin finding him liable for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand in 2018, a finding he unsuccessfully sought to overturn while maintaining the encounter was consensual, classichits.ie reported. Addressing the backlash on social media in October, McNally rejected calls to boycott the platform, writing on Instagram that she would not shrink herself from professional opportunities because the show had previously hosted a controversial guest.
