Chappell Roan Security Incident: Soccer Star Jorginho’s Daughter Involved in Brazil Hotel Encounter
A security guard who left the stepdaughter of footballer Jorginho in tears has said he was not working for singer Chappell Roan during an incident at a hotel in Brazil. The incident occurred while Roan was in São Paulo for Lollapalooza.
Singer Catherine Harding, who is married to the former Premier League footballer, said the security guard “berated” her and her daughter after an encounter with the “Pink Pony Club” singer. Harding shares a child with her ex-partner, actor Jude Law, and it is believed the youngster involved is their daughter.
Security Guard Not Part of Roan’s Team
In a statement posted on Instagram, celebrity bodyguard Pascal Duvier said he was working for another, unnamed individual at the time of the interaction. Duvier stated he does not normally address online rumors, but the accusations circulating were false and constituted defamation.
“I do not normally address online rumours, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation. I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st,” he wrote. “I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan. The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals.”
Roan Responds to Allegations
Roan has since said she was not aware of the incident and the security guard in question was not part of her personal detail. According to ABC News, in an Instagram story, Roan explained she “didn’t even see a woman and a child” and that the security guard was not part of her team.
“No one came up to me, no one bothered me,” she said. “I did not request the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not.”
Duvier added that he made a judgement call based on information obtained from the hotel, events he had witnessed in the days prior, and the heightened overall security risk of their location. He stated his sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions, and the outcome of the encounter was regrettable.
Jorginho’s Account of the Incident
In a video shared on Instagram, Harding said her daughter spotted Roan while having breakfast at the same hotel. She added the child did not have her phone or approach Roan but smiled as she walked past her table.
Harding said a security guard then approached them to “berate and scold” them and spoke in an “aggressive tone.” USA Today reported that Jorginho previously said his stepdaughter was left “extremely shaken and cried a lot.”
Roan previously stated, “They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe, because there’s no action even taken.”
Roan’s Previous Comments on Fan Interactions
Grammy-winning singer Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, previously addressed “creepy” behavior from fans and the need for boundaries between celebrities and their fans in a series of TikToks in 2024.
Harding has said the tickets to see Roan at Lollapalooza festival in Sao Paolo had been a birthday gift for her daughter and the experience had been “ruined,” and they did not attend the show.
Jorginho married Harding in Lake Como, Italy, last year. The couple shares a son, and Jorginho has two children from a previous marriage.
