Pepe’s early life was marked by a valiant move to the United States with his mother,settling in New York City under the care of his grandmother.It was in the vibrant landscape of the Lower East Side that a pivotal moment occurred – a chance encounter with Eileen while playing handball beneath the Williamsburg bridge. This serendipitous meeting blossomed into a remarkable 60-year marriage, a testament to thier enduring connection and shared life.
driven by a thirst for knowledge, Pepe pursued higher education at the City College of New York, ultimately earning a Ph.D.in organic chemistry from Yale University.His academic excellence led to a distinguished career at Eastman kodak, where he contributed substantially to the field.Even after retirement,pepe remained intellectually engaged,embracing a variety of passions including volunteering,cycling,travel,and reading.
Beyond his professional accomplishments,Pepe was known for his warmth,generosity,and ability to forge lasting bonds with those he met. He found immense joy in spending time with his family, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
José Martin Fernandez is survived by his beloved wife,Eileen; his children,Daniel Fernandez (Bonnie) and Anita Fernandez (Scott Weatherbee); his grandchildren,Jordan Fernandez (Brittney) and Marisa Fernandez; and his great-grandchildren,Giovanna Fernandez and Levi Fernandez.
