Hotel Linens Recycled Into Tug Toys for Abandoned Dogs

Josun Hotels & Resorts converted discarded linens from the Westin Josun Seoul into 100 dog toys, pairing the upcycling effort with hands-on animal shelter volunteering. Fifteen corporate employees traveled to the Korea Abandoned Animal Welfare Association on October 14 to deliver the handmade tug toys alongside pet pads and treats.

Corporate Volunteers Clean Kennels and Walk Shelter Animals

Beyond delivering supplies, the 15 participating employees spent the day performing direct maintenance and animal care tasks at the welfare association facility. Workers cleaned kennels, bathed and groomed dogs, and walked the animals to improve their immediate living conditions. E-Mart’s pet retail brand, Mollys, supplied the companion animal pads and snacks distributed during the visit, while the Seoul Volunteer Center and Dream Hanger were collaborative partners in the toy-making workshop.

Hotel Industry Focuses on Resource Recycling and Social Responsibility

The hospitality industry is increasingly focusing on the recycling of resources generated during daily operations and the practical implementation of social responsibility. Josun Hotels & Resorts carried out its volunteer work alongside key figures including Korea Abandoned Animal Welfare Association Representative Lim Jang-chun, Josun Hotels & Resorts CSR Team Leader Kim Pyo-jun, and Seoul Volunteer Center Team Leader Kim Won-min. Chief Executive Officer Choi Hoon-hak stated the activity this time, which newly utilized waste linen collected from the hotel as abandoned dog toys, has great significance in that it practiced two values together: resource circulation and abandoned animal protection, adding we will continue to strive to create sustainable value through various social contribution activities including upcycling.

The October 14 project builds on a similar 2023 corporate initiative where Josun Hotels & Resorts staff transformed discarded hotel bedding into dog toys for domestic animal welfare groups. Chief Executive Officer Choi Hoon-hak stated that repurposing hotel textiles simultaneously achieves resource circulation and animal protection. This welfare work runs parallel to the company’s commercial pet hospitality operations, which include designated pet rooms and welcome amenities at the Lescape Seoul Myeongdong, Luxury Collection Hotel.
