Teatrocinema’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth” Returns to San Antonio Cultural Center

One of Chile’s most celebrated contemporary theatrical productions, “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” is returning to the stage with performances scheduled for the San Antonio Cultural Center on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The production, originally premiered in 1995 by La Troppa, is now presented by Teatrocinema, marking the 30th anniversary of this landmark work.

A Chilean Theatrical Classic

“Journey to the Center of the Earth” is an adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic novel, brought to life through a unique blend of humor, adventure, visual poetry and imaginative staging [2]. The story follows Professor Lidenbrock and his nephew Axel as they embark on an expedition to the Earth’s core, guided by a deciphered ancient message.

Teatrocinema and the Evolution of a Production

The Teatrocinema company was founded in 2005 by Laura Pizarro and Juan Carlos Zagal, along with a multidisciplinary artistic collective. The company focuses on experimenting with and merging elements of theater, cinema, photography, comics, animation, literature, and music [3]. This fresh version of “Journey to the Center of the Earth” is directed by Zagal and Pizarro, with Christian Aguilera starring alongside Zagal, who reprises his role from the original 1995 production.

The tour of “Journey to the Center of the Earth” includes free performances with post-show discussions in four cities across the Valparaíso and Metropolitan regions of Chile.
