The Jujutsu Kaisen manga ended in 2024, following the events of the Shinjuku Showdown, where the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, finally fell. This arc was incredibly divisive among the readers of the manga for a multitude of reasons, and that became part of the reason why Jujutsu Kaisen getting a sequel series called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, was incredibly important and exciting for all readers. Set 68 years after the conclusion of the main story, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo introduces an alien race of Simurians to the fans. With 21 chapters, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has blown away all the readers of the story, and it can even be said that this is actually a better-written story than the original manga.
Now, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is closing in on its end, and it ties in directly with one of the biggest themes of the original story, that is, the elimination of cursed spirits altogether. This was a plot point that the story left hanging in the original series, and now, after two years, Gege Akutami is finally resolving it. With help from Yuji Itadori and Maru, one of the Simurians, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is officially fixing the biggest problem with Gege’s original story in some style.

No Conclusion On The Cursed Spirits Plotline
The original ending of Jujutsu Kaisen was incredibly rushed, and that is no surprise when taking into consideration the deteriorating health of the author. Many plot points that the author originally set up were never touched upon, and others were given a rather rushed conclusion. Quite easily, the biggest plot point that should’ve been explored was the elimination of cursed spirits from the world, which Gege Akutami set up very early on in the story.
Cursed Spirits are created from negative energy seeping out of humans who can’t control their cursed energy in the world of JJK. These cursed spirits go on to cause all sorts of havoc in society, leading to deaths, among many other things. It was a dream of some sorcerers to eliminate Cursed Spirits entirely. Yuki Tsukumo was one such character, and she wanted to rid the world of these spirits so accidents involving them would cease to exist and people would stop suffering. Similarly, another major character in the story came up later down the line, known as Geto Suguru, and he too intended to put an end to the Cursed Spirits forever. However, in his case, the approach was to kill every non-sorcerer and commit mass murder so that whoever remained would be fit to bear the power of cursed energy.
If every single human became a Jujutsu sorcerer, curses would no longer be born. — Yuki Tsukumo
In the end, Geto ended up dying in the battle against Gojo, and his body was taken over by none other than Kenjaku, whose plans were even more sinister. Kenjaku wanted to use immense amounts of cursed energy from various sorcerers to cause a merger and witness a scenario so bizarre that even he did not know what would happen once it was unleashed. Kenjaku was eventually taken down in the Shinjuku Showdown arc of Jujutsu Kaisen by none other than Yuta Okkotsu. At the same time, the King of Curses fell as well. Yuki Tsukumo had already died by this point in the story. As such, the plotline of Cursed Spirits being eliminated from Japan was never brought up in the story, and it wasn’t given a good conclusion either. Now, in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, this plot point is finally being addressed.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is Fixing The Ending Of The Original Series
Gege Akutami’s Short Manga To Deliver A Fitting Conclusion
In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 21, Maru made use of his cursed technique and revealed his ulterior goal. Having realized that humans struggle with Cursed Spirits, Maru revealed his goal of eliminating them from the world for good.
I want to eliminate Cursed Spirits from the world forever. — Maru, JJK Modulo
At this point, Yuji Itadori, the previous protagonist of the original story, revealed that some others in Japan held a similar goal in the past. With Maru’s technique of Chaos and Harmony, this goal can truly be accomplished. Maru intends to use the cursed energy from Yuta’s ring and his own cursed technique, along with the power of Mahito, to bring about a massive change that will see the complete elimination of cursed spirits from Japan. This union is going to be witnessed by none other than Yuji Itadori, and after this change, Simurians and humans can collaborate and live in peace forever.
Cursed Spirits Will Forever Cease To Exist In JJK Modulo
Maru and Yuji Will End Cursed Spirits Forever
There are two ways in which Maru can go about eliminating Cursed Spirits from Japan entirely:
-
The first way is to create an ideal scenario where everyone with cursed energy is given the power to manipulate it properly. As things stand, not everyone knows how to optimize cursed energy, which is why it leaks and leads to the creation of Cursed Spirits.
-
The other way Maru can go about it is by removing cursed energy from everyone altogether, which would naturally lead to the demise of all cursed spirits. This is unlikely to be the case because it would create an imbalance between the Simurians and the humans, as one force would no longer hold on to cursed energy.
The likelier output is everyone learning to optimize cursed energy with the power of Idle Transfiguration, as was the case in the Culling Game. This would solve the biggest problem that humanity has had to deal with for ages, and it would also open up a world of new possibilities where countless powerful cursed techniques show up and these dangerous spirits cease to exist forever. It is also possible that all cursed spirits are turned fully into Kalyans.
Yuki And Geto’s Dream Has Finally Been Realized
Gege Akutami Added Meaning To Yuki And Geto
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo eliminating Cursed Spirits Forever is huge for the franchise because it fixes the broken ending of the original series. Whereas Gege failed to deliver a proper conclusion to the Cursed Spirits plotline in his original story, here he is going to take them away forever and, in doing so, add meaning to the characters of Yuki and Geto as well. Yuki’s dream is finally being realized by none other than Maru, while Geto, who wanted to accomplish something similar in a rather bizarre way, will have his own goal fulfilled as well.
At the same time, this also aids the goal of Gojo Satoru, who wanted to create a world where the elites of the Jujutsu world were no longer corrupt. All of this will be overseen by Yuji Itadori, the protagonist of the story. What once started with Yuki Tsukumo and was pioneered by many others before her, is finally being ended by Maru of Simurians. By doing everyone such a huge favor, Maru will have officially united his race with the humans. This will earn a proper home for his people and allow them to be friends with the humans forever.
No matter which way fans look at it, this ending is absolutely beautiful and addresses the biggest issues that fans have with the original Jujutsu Kaisen story. Gege Akutami has proved that he is a much better writer now than he was in the past, and that whatever work he comes up with in the future is going to be a far more polished story.
