Jurgen Klopp Dismisses Real Madrid Speculation, Remains Open to Future Coaching Role
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has emphatically denied reports linking him to Real Madrid, stating that the Spanish club has not made any contact. Yet, the 58-year-old has not ruled out a return to coaching in the future, despite currently enjoying his role as Head of Global Football at Red Bull.
“If Real Madrid had phoned, we would have heard about it by now,” Klopp told reporters at the Magenta TV World Cup team presentation in Munich, as reported by Sky Sports. “But that’s all nonsense. They haven’t called even once, not once. My agent is there, you can ask him. They haven’t called him either.”
Current Role at Red Bull
Klopp stepped down as Liverpool manager at the end of the 2023-24 season and transitioned to a leadership position with Red Bull, overseeing football operations across the company’s global network of clubs. However, recent reports have suggested his impact in this role has been less significant than anticipated. According to World Soccer Talk, clubs within the Red Bull system, such as Salzburg and Leipzig, haven’t experienced the competitive improvements expected under his leadership.
Despite this, Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s chief, has stated that Klopp “has made it clear that he doesn’t wish to be a coach at the moment,” as reported by Sports Illustrated. Mintzlaff added that while a return to coaching isn’t currently on Klopp’s agenda, he remains “completely relaxed” about the situation.
Future Possibilities
While dismissing the immediate speculation surrounding Real Madrid, Klopp acknowledged that he may return to the touchline at some point. “Right now I’m not thinking about that, luckily there’s no reason to,” he said. “For my age I’m quite advanced in life, but as a coach I’m not completely finished. I haven’t reached retirement age.”
However, Football365 reports that a return to club management is “out of the question” for Klopp, with sources close to him indicating a greater likelihood of him taking over as the head coach of the German national team.
Klopp concluded by stating, “Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But there’s nothing planned.”
