Justin Trudeau Supports Brother’s Film Debut, Reflects on Post-Political Life and Katy Perry Relationship
Toronto – Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended a private screening in Toronto on Thursday, February 26, 2026, to support his brother, Alexandre Trudeau, at the premiere of Alexandre’s debut scripted feature film, “Hair of the Bear.”
Co-directed by Alexandre Trudeau and James McLellan, “Hair of the Bear” marks a shift for Alexandre, who has previously focused on geopolitical documentaries. The Canadian survival thriller follows a teen, played by Malia Baker, sent to a remote cabin with her grandfather (Roy Dupuis) and the ensuing struggle for survival when they encounter unwelcome visitors. The film also stars Robert Naylor and Jonathan Lawrence. Winnipeg Free Press reports on the film’s plot.
A Family Affair, With a Touch of Humor
Alexandre Trudeau shared in interviews that he and his brother don’t often discuss film, admitting they are “more likely to wrestle” when they get together. During a post-screening Q&A, Justin Trudeau playfully questioned whether there was any truth to the idea of one brother being “good” and the other “bad,” eliciting laughter from the audience. Alexandre responded that he was simply exploring the complexities of sibling relationships and differing moral perspectives. CTV News detailed this exchange.
Trudeau’s Life After Politics
Since leaving office last year, Justin Trudeau has been enjoying a quieter life, and has “been super happy” and “falling in love” with pop star Katy Perry, according to Alexandre. He confirmed he has met Perry and expressed his happiness for his brother. Castanet reported on Alexandre’s comments regarding his brother’s personal life.
Alexandre noted Justin is enjoying “the little freedoms of shopping and fixing things in his home and dating again or, you know, falling in love again.” He added that Justin introduced Perry to the family when their relationship became serious.
No Collaboration on the Horizon
Despite both having experience in film, Alexandre stated there are no plans for a professional collaboration with his brother. He joked that a voice acting role in an animated film might be the most likely scenario, respecting a “rule that we don’t hassle each other.” Justin Trudeau previously appeared in the 2007 CBC TV film “The Great War.”
