K2 Appoints Chris Thunell as Cybersecurity & IT Executive VP

K2 has appointed Chris Thunell as Executive Vice President of Cybersecurity & Information Technology, effective February 27, 2026. Thunell will lead the firm’s enterprise IT strategy, cloud architecture, and managed services initiatives, with a specific focus on aligning secure technology solutions with federal operational performance.

Strengthening Federal Compliance and Security Posture

A key aspect of Thunell’s role will be integrating critical regulatory frameworks into K2’s federal strategy. This includes aligning with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, essential for contractors within the Department of Defense (DoD) supply chain. Homeland Security Today reports that this integration is a priority for K2.

Extensive Experience in IT and Cybersecurity

Thunell brings over 30 years of experience in information technology and executive management to K2. Prior to joining K2, he served as President of 3C Solutions Inc. His career has centered on infrastructure modernization and digital transformation across various industries, with a focus on complex enterprise technology environments. LinkedIn confirms his current position at K2.

Registered Provider Organization (RPO) Certification

Thunell will also spearhead K2’s efforts to become a Registered Provider Organization (RPO) through The Cyber AB. Achieving RPO status will authorize K2 to provide specialized advice and assistance to organizations seeking to meet the stringent security requirements for federal contracts, ultimately bolstering the security and compliance readiness of clients within the defense industrial base. Homeland Security Today details this strategic initiative.
