The Kanal contemporary art museum in Brussels has received its first three artworks ahead of its public opening on November 28, marking the initial delivery for the inaugural exhibition A Truly Immense Journey.
Transport of Initial Collection Pieces Marks Museum Milestone
Specialized fine art transporters delivered the first three items to the Kanal building, initiating the setup phase for one of ten opening exhibitions. David Salomonowicz, press officer for Kanal, described the delivery to BRUZZ as an emotional moment for the staff. “It is an emotional experience for the entire team to finally see the result of what we have worked so hard on for years and why we do it,” Salomonowicz stated. He added that using works by artists from the museum’s own collection for the initial delivery carried strong symbolic weight.
Building a Contemporary Belgian Art Repository Since 2018
Kanal has actively acquired works for its proprietary collection since 2018, maintaining a primary focus on supporting and highlighting Belgian artists. The museum’s inventory now totals approximately 120 works. The permanent holdings include pieces by Sammy Baloji, Kasper Bosmans, Aline Bouvy, Walter Swennen, and Ann Veronica Janssens.
Inaugural Season Features Solo Exhibitions for Brussels Artists
The opening season will extend beyond group presentations to include dedicated solo exhibitions for two notable local creators. Brussels-based artists Joëlle Tuerlinckx and Manon de Boer have each secured individual showcase spaces within the museum’s initial programming lineup when the doors open on November 28.
