Kate Bush Gains Streaming Momentum with stranger Things Season Finale
Kate Bush experiences another surge in streams following the premiere of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.
Her 1985 hit, ‘running up That Hill (A Deal With God)’, gained renewed popularity in 2022 during the fourth season of Stranger Things.The song played a pivotal role in the storyline, ultimately helping save Max (Sadie Sink). Streams of the ’80s classic increased by 153 percent after its inclusion in the series.
The song introduced Bush’s music to a new generation of fans and reached one billion streams in summer 2023. Bush expressed her gratitude, stating fans “sent this song on such an impossibly remarkable journey,” and that she felt “blown away.”
Reports in 2022 indicated Bush earned $2.3 million (£1.9 million) in streaming revenue from “Running up That Hill”. The track also ranked among the most streamed songs in the UK, securing a place as number six in the Top 10 most popular songs on TikTok for 2022.
Now, with the release of the first part of Stranger Things season five, the song appears again, driving another increase in streams for Bush.
A post on her Facebook page on November 27, 2025, celebrated ‘Running Up That Hill’ surpassing 1.5 billion streams on Spotify.
The Facebook caption shared a screenshot of the artist page, noting, “‘Running Up That Hill’ has today passed the 1.5 billion streams milestone on Spotify. It is indeed currently at Number 146 globally on Spotify having featured again in several episodes of Stranger Things.”
