Katie Taylor Launches 2027 Nationwide Theatre Tour Following Retirement

In a column for RTÉ Sport, recently retired three-time undisputed boxing champion Katie Taylor announced that her next professional chapter will include a nationwide theatrical tour titled ‘HERstory’ in 2027.

The Two-Part Structure of the HERstory Production

The stage experience combines theatrical storytelling with live commentary. The first half features a theatrical play directed by Andrew Flynn, Director of Theatre at Galway Arts Centre, which traces Taylor’s early life in Bray and her amateur career up to 2016, as detailed by the Connaught Telegraph. The second half transitions into a live on-stage interview guided by boxing journalist, broadcaster, and author Steve Bunce. Audiences can purchase limited Platinum Meet & Greet tickets that include premium seating, a photograph with Taylor, and a signed boxing glove.

Reflecting on a Legacy in Women’s Boxing

Reflecting on her career during the media launch at the Helix Theatre in Dublin, Taylor told RTÉ Sport that witnessing the current state of women’s boxing outweighs any individual medal or accolade. She stated, I think that’s probably the greatest part about this whole legacy, when I think of all the amazing female fighters who are able to represent their country in the Olympic Games. That, to me, is greater than any gold medal, any award, any accomplishment, really, because that’s what real legacy is all about, she added.

Future Plans in Coaching and Punditry

While stepping away from active competition, Taylor stated she does not intend to leave the sport entirely. As reported by the Irish Examiner, she is considering future opportunities in coaching and punditry. I’m not going to step away from sport completely, Taylor told the publication, noting that she intends to enjoy a less intense lifestyle with her family before committing fully to her next endeavors. Explaining her physical toll, she added, I’ve beaten my body up so much over these last 20 years, noting, My whole adult life was based around boxing, and most of my childhood was as well. She also mentioned, There are parts of the gym I miss. Taylor stated, There are going to be so many opportunities for me, even in punditry maybe, in coaching maybe, and added, When those new dreams and ideas do spring up, I’m going to give them my heart and soul as well.
