Taylor Open to Potential Boxing Match with Rousey
Taylor and Rousey are titans of combat sports. Ireland’s Taylor is arguably the greatest women’s boxer of all time, and Rousey is an icon of the UFC – the flagship promotion in mixed martial arts (MMA).
on Monday, BoxingScene reported that the pair could meet in a boxing match in Las vegas in the coming months, and Taylor said on Tuesday that it was “the first I’ve heard about it,” but that she was “very open” to the bout.
“She’s an iconic figure herself in female sport, and she has an amazing mentality,” said Taylor on tuesday, speaking at the launch of her new partnership with Irish sportswear brand, Sportswear Pro.
Rousey hasn’t boxed professionally, and her last competitive fight was a loss to Marina Rodriguez in a UFC bout in September 2023. Taylor, simultaneously occurring, is coming off a majority-decision win over Jennifer Han in September 2023.
A potential fight between the two would be a major crossover event, drawing interest from both boxing and MMA fans. It would also present a critically important challenge for both athletes, given their different backgrounds and skill sets.
“It’s a very interesting matchup, and I think it would be a huge event,” Taylor added. “I’m always up for a challenge, and Ronda is definitely a tough opponent.”
