Edgars and Emīls Kaupers to Host Latvian “Kilograms Kultūras 2025” Awards

Musicians Edgars and Emīls Kaupers will host the Latvian Public Media Annual Award in Culture, “Kilograms Kultūras 2025,” on February 21st. The ceremony will honor achievements across ten cultural categories and will be broadcast live on LTV1, REplay.lv, and LSM.lv, with audio coverage on LR1 and LR3 “Klasika.”

First Time Hosting a Major Cultural Event

This marks the first time the Kaupers brothers will lead a cultural event of this scale. They expressed both excitement and a humorous acknowledgment of their lack of experience in event hosting. Lente.lv reports Edgars Kaupers joked about not needing a driver’s license since they don’t yet own a car, while Emīls added they can share the potential embarrassment.

A Versatile Pair Reflecting Latvian Culture

Ceremony director Zita Kaminska explained the selection of the Kaupers brothers, highlighting their diverse experience. They represent a broad spectrum of the “Kilograms Kultūras” categories. Both are members of the pop group “Carnival Youth” (Pop Culture), songwriters (Music, Literature), and actors in the Latvian National Theatre’s production of “Rebellious Riga” (Theatre). LSM.lv notes that Edgars is a certified film director (Cinema) and Emīls is a graduate of the Latvian Art Academy (Art). Their family also has deep roots in the arts and music (Legacy).

“Kilograms Kultūras” Awards and Voting Process

The final voting for the “Kilograms Kultūras 2025” awards concluded on February 6th. Winners will be announced in ten categories: Music, Cinema, Theatre, Visual Art, Literature, Pop Culture, Start (Emerging Artist), Heritage, Surprise, and Event. Unlike many awards, the final decision rests with the public through a three-stage voting process – spring, autumn, and winter.

Culture as a Beacon

This year’s “Kilograms Kultūras” is described as recognizing “safe beacons” in challenging times, specifically mentioning the unifying impact of the Song and Dance Festival and the continued inspiration provided by the legacy of Maestro Raimonds Pauls. Kaminska emphasized the role of culture as a guiding force, offering direction and resilience.

Ceremony Details

The ceremony will feature ten acceptance speeches and six musical performances. The Kaupers brothers also promise “a couple of good jokes and a premiere of a fresh song!”
