Kesha Drops Surprise Backstabber Music Video After 16 Years

Pop star Kesha released the music video for her track “Backstabber” on Oct. 26, 16 years after the song debuted as part of her 2010 album Animal, today.com reported. The surprise release arrived via a sudden social media announcement on Oct. 25, catching fans off guard with a visual throwback to her early 2010s era.

“I can’t believe I’m saying this but after 16 years, it’s finally here,” Kesha wrote on social media alongside the announcement. Representatives for the artist did not immediately respond to inquiries from today.com regarding the timing of the video drop.

Early 2010s Aesthetic and the Mystery of the Gold Car

In the teaser shared across her social media accounts, Kesha wears her signature smudged black eyeliner and messy party hair, echoing the distinct visual style of her early 2010s music era. The footage also features a gold car that the singer posted about just days prior.

On Oct. 24, Kesha posted a series of tweets asking followers, “WHO THE FCK STOLE MY CAR?!?!!” while sharing a photo of the vehicle alongside a phone number for tips, according to today.com. The gold whip appears in the newly released “Backstabber” visual.

From Animal to Modern Independence

Released in 2010, the album Animal marked the artist’s entrance into mainstream stardom, featuring hits including “Tik Tok,” “Your Love is My Drug,” and “Take It Off.”

The singer’s career included several years that were interrupted by legal battles between her and her former producer Dr. Luke, whom she previously accused of sexual assault. The producer then sued her for defamation. In 2023, the artist released a joint statement with the producer, announcing a settlement in his defamation suit.
