Kevin Costner does not rule out a return to sports films: at a party during the Super Bowl in San Francisco, the actor said that he was ready to take the field again – if the “right story” comes along.

According to Costner, he already had one suitable idea – a film about baseball:

“I would have filmed. I had one story, and then the Cubs went and won the World Series. At some point I was going to do this.”

For Costner, the sports genre is familiar territory: he has projects about baseball, American football and golf under his belt – “Durham Bulls,” “Field of Dreams,” “For the Love of the Game,” “Draft Day” and “Tin Cup.” He says that the “right” stories are felt immediately.

The key criterion for him is the actor’s organicity with the material and the honesty of the acting itself on the screen: sports cinema only works when it looks real:

“If you’re not suitable for a sports film, you just shouldn’t do it. It doesn’t matter how much you love sports.”

Another interesting touch: for about six years in a row, Costner and his friends secretly rented a gym where the company organized indoor basketball matches. The idea started with Mike Krzyszewski and the late Rick Majerus bringing some of their players. The actor admitted that he was impressed by how warmly and like a gentleman he was received by the coaches, whom he respects.
