kevin johnson, a former NFL defensive lineman who played for the Philadelphia Eagles, has died at the age of 55. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Johnson died from blunt head trauma and stab wounds, ruling his death a homicide.
Johnson was found unresponsive Wednesday morning at a homeless encampment in Los Angeles, were investigators believe he had been residing. The case is currently under investigation.
Drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 1993 NFL Draft, Johnson played for several teams throughout his professional football career.He spent time with the Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, and ultimately the Eagles. During his two seasons with Philadelphia, he recorded 43 tackles, including seven sacks, and even recovered a fumble for a touchdown.
Prior to his NFL career, Johnson played college football at Texas Southern University. Following his time in the NFL, he continued his football career in the Arena Football League with teams in Orlando and Los Angeles.
Friends of Johnson indicated he had been facing health challenges in recent years, wich contributed to his arduous circumstances.
