Drone Attack in Kharkiv Injures Child and Elderly Woman

Kharkiv, Ukraine – A Russian drone attack on Kharkiv on March 2, 2026, resulted in injuries to a 10-year-ancient girl and an 80-year-old woman, according to Oleh Syniehubov, the Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration (HOVA). The attack struck an apartment building in the Shevchenko district of the city.

Details of the Attack

At approximately 3:34 PM local time, reports of an enemy drone strike in the Shevchenko district emerged. Igor Terekhov, the Mayor of Kharkiv, initially reported casualties and stated that details were being investigated. Shortly after, it was confirmed that a drone had directly impacted an apartment building.

Injuries Reported

The 10-year-old girl experienced severe stress as a result of the attack and received medical attention. The 80-year-old woman suffered an acute stress reaction. As of 5:09 PM local time, the number of victims had risen to two, as reported by Syniehubov.

Ongoing Drone Activity

Monitoring channels had detected Molniya-type UAVs over the city throughout the day, with the first explosions reported around 6:35 AM. Terekhov also noted the successful operation of air defense systems in intercepting some of the drones during a national marathon broadcast.

Context and Background

Oleh Syniehubov is the current Governor of Kharkiv Oblast, having assumed office on December 24, 2021. He previously served as the Governor of Poltava Oblast from November 11, 2019, to December 24, 2021. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Syniehubov was appointed head of the Kharkiv Regional Civil-Military Administration.

This attack is the latest in a series of incidents targeting Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city.
